We live in a society that promotes the buying of many things. It encourages the occupying of every minute of the day. With today’s technology, people have access to you 24/7. The age of faster is better, right—not!
We go to fast food places to be served fast, then we eat fast, we have to rush back to work or home so, we walk fast, or we drive fast, we talk fast and at this rate, we may even die fast. No wonder it’s overwhelming the thought of slowing things down in order to plan, create, set goals, prioritize—or even, relax.
Take time to see what the big picture is and plan it, ask yourself, “ how do I want to get there?”
We find ourselves believing that multitasking is something to brag about, it’s not. According to researches, efficiency drops between 20% & 50% when multitasking. So just work on your top 2 or 3 projects/goals. Here are some suggestions:
1. Start working on your goals during your peak time.
2. Set aside 10% of your time for creativity,
3. Avoid emails in the morning, and interruptions for at least 1 hour to 1 ½.
4. Use the SMART WAYS to achieve your goals and by the way, Harold Taylor (the guru of time management) added WAYS:
a. Specific
b. Measurable
c. Attainable
d. Relevant
e. Time-framed
f. Written
g. All areas
h. Your responsibility
i. Scheduled
5. Schedule in your planner what you will accomplish on that day or, in pen schedule in every day what task to help you reach those goals.
6. Decide when your start receiving activities ask, “What is the priority of this activity?”
a. Is it urgent, and not important
b. Not urgent and not important
c. Important and urgent, and finally
d. Important and not urgent
7. Only work with important and urgent and, important and not urgent.
And don’t forget to schedule in time for family and relaxation. Time will go by fast and you will wonder, where did it go?
